Department TEval Report: Judaic and Near Eastern Studies

The Judaic and Near Eastern Studies department (Year Two) is addressing the TEval goals as follows.

The Judaic and Near Eastern Studies (JNE) Department is characterized by a wide range of teaching styles and courses, including language and non-language classes, within a small Department with multiple and distinct majors and minors. We have used the TEval project primarily in two ways. First, the rubric is the basis of ongoing conversations around pluralizing the way we understand teaching and encourage faculty to document their teaching. Second, we have established small teaching discussion and mentorship groups to talk about general issues and focus on specific course refinement. In addition, funding from TEval has facilitated adding new techniques and components to several of our courses, such as a museum tour in New York related to a class on Jewish life and culture last spring.
