THE PARTNERS PROGRAM – overview | how it works | sample schedule

UMass and Partner NYPOP students visit with Rashaad Newsome at his solo show at Marlborough Chelsea

HOW DOES THE PARTNER PROGRAM WORK?
The recent economic crisis has stimulated many parents of university art students to carefully consider the earning potential of a degree in the arts. More and more, these parents are seeking programs that consistently offer curriculum addressing career options for their sons and daughters. Past experience has proven that on-site seminars with practicing professionals in their workspaces and homes, can turn student dreams into career realities. Even in these most virtual of times, we know that nothing can replace direct experience when it comes to transforming our students into art professionals.

Each semester, NYPOP convenes up to eight sessions at our Studio/Classroom in Chelsea. Ten students from UMassAmherst attend these sessions. Ten students from one of our partner institutions join them. Together, we undertake several days of on-site visits and discussions with some the city’s most successful professionals.

Above is a link to an outline of a sample visit. These four-day sessions feature several seminars with Professors Kearns and Tiller at the NYPOP Studio/Classroom, in addition to visits with other art professionals in their spaces. We schedule artists, curators, critics, or gallery personnel to fit your particular requirements. Visits to art galleries and museums are also part of the schedule.

We are aware of the budget constraints most schools are experiencing these days, and are prepared to fit your needs and means. The duration of each visit can be shortened and the number seminars can vary.

We offer three programming options:

Option A - $5,000
This is a 4-day seminar, which includes visits with two art professionals, in addition to Kearns and Tiller. The fee covers participation for ten students and one professor. DVDs of their seminar meetings are included, as well as access to our DVD Archive.

Option B - $3,000

This is a 3-day seminar, which includes a visit with one art professional, in addition to Kearns and Tiller. The fee covers participation for ten students and one professor. DVDs of their seminar meetings are included, as well as access to our DVD Archive.

Option C - $2,000
This is a 1-day seminar, which includes a visit with one art professional, in addition to Kearns and Tiller. The fee covers participation for ten students and one professor. DVDs of their seminar meetings are included.
