Student Ambassador Description and Eligibility

Goals and Objectives

The UMass Amherst CON Ambassador Program is to provide leadership experience for students and tangible support for CON functions. Ambassadors are offered special opportunities to explore their leadership potential through a development program. Ambassadors serve in a variety of capacities and assist in the mission of the College of Nursing.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Ambassador program, students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA (Cumulative average) during the semester they apply for admittance to the program.

Once accepted, Ambassadors must maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA in order to remain in good standing. Continued standing in the program will be determined by the Ambassador’s GPA at the start of each semester and by evaluations of their performance in the program. Ambassadors must maintain a caring, service-oriented attitude with respect to the college and program objectives. This attitude is represented in a willingness to attend program training sessions and serve at functions as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Dean.

Continued academic progress toward each student’s goal is central to the philosophy of the Ambassador program. Students are encouraged to apply only if they believe the program and leadership commitment will enhance their educational goals without hindering academic progress.

Conduct

CON Ambassadors are student representatives of UMass Amherst College of Nursing. They enjoy unique leadership opportunities for personal enrichment and development. Ambassadors are expected to conduct themselves as campus leaders, exhibiting the behavior expected of a college representative. Students should exhibit a service-oriented attitude, a desire to meet and greet campus visitors, and a willingness to assist campus guests and other persons interested in the CON.

Duties

Ambassadors perform various duties and services as CON representatives. Their duties include, but are not limited to, learning and leading the CON Campus Tour, ushering at functions and other events, representing the college in outreach capacities, meeting and greeting campus visitors, assisting with receptions and special events and participating in an Ambassador training session. After the mandatory annual training meeting, Ambassadors must serve at a minimum of four functions each year to continue in the program.
