Veterans Entering the Nursing Workforce represents a new and innovative model designed to increase the number of minority and disadvantaged veterans to successfully complete a university-based nursing education and become employed in the national nursing workforce. UMass will provide a broad range of services and programs to help support and ensure the success of the students, including a Reflective Practice Consultant and her team, who meets with and supports the veterans and College of Nursing faculty and staff. According to the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice, the underrepresentation of minorities in nursing education perpetuates the underrepresentation of minorities in the nursing workforce. Therefore the nursing educational system is the logical starting point for increasing diversity in the nursing workforce.
