MS - Clinical Nurse Leader Concentration - Online

The Clinical Nurse Leader concentration strengthens health care delivery by teaching the advanced knowledge and skills needed to provide comprehensive, across-the-life-span nursing services to individuals, families and groups. 

The online MS-CNL concentration prepares nurse leaders as Advanced Education Nurse Generalists who design, promote, manage and coordinate health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention and illness management services to individuals and clinical populations. 

The CNL role applies research-based information and efficient and cost- effective use of resources to improve clinical and environmental care outcomes and influence change in health care organizations.

Upon completion of the program, the graduate is prepared to lead health care teams in a broad range of clinical settings to meet the demands of a complex care delivery system.

As a student in the UMass Amherst Master of Science – Clinical Nurse Leader concentration, you will:

  • Gain advanced knowledge and education in nursing that will prepare you to be a leader and active member of the interdisciplinary health care team
  • Develop competencies and knowledge specified by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) for Master’s Education and for the specific Clinical Nurse Leader role focus
  • Prepare to take the CNL certification examination offered by Commission on Nurse Certification (CNC) through AACN
