Doctor of Nursing Practice Admission

Prerequisites and Admission Criteria
Applicants must meet the following entrance requirements:
- A baccalaureate or master’s degree in nursing, or an associate’s degree in nursing and a non-Nursing baccalaureate degree from a nationally accredited school or college of nursing with a grade point average of 3.0 (B) or higher
- A current professional license
Apply for the Doctor of Nursing Practice online through the UMass Amherst Graduate School.
The following supplemental materials are required. You may upload these materials as part of the online graduate school application process:
- Academic writing sample
- Statement of professional goals
- Current résumé or CV
- Documentation of professional licensure and certifications
- Two letters of recommendation
- TOEFL scores (where applicable)
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities you have attended
Out of state students: The University of Massachusetts Amherst operates distance education classes and programs for out-of-state students under the terms and provisions of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). Due to certain states' restrictions on clinical placements for students enrolled in out-of-state institutions, we are currently unable to accept DNP students seeking a clinical certification who reside in: Alabama, Minnesota, New York, Oregon or Washington. Our office will confirm the current regulations concerning clinical placements as necessary.
Estimated Cost
The cost per credit is $825 (note: the cost is the same for both in-state and out-of-state students). In addition, there is a $60 nonrefundable registration fee each semester.
Estimated additional fees will include:
- CastleBranch (background check and immunization tracker): $85 (1-time fee)
- Typhon (clinical tracking system): $80 (1-time fee)
- I -Human for primary care NPs: $95 per clinical semester
