Nurstory: Stories of Social Justice in Nursing

Thanks to the generous support of our alumna, Sue Hagedorn '77, StoryCenter was able to visit the University of Massachusetts Amherst College of Nursing in 2015 and 2016. Through workshops on campus, nurses were able to share their stories and in collaboration with StoryCenter's Daniel Weinshenker, they were able to create the following videos.

The 2016 stories range from the timely topic of opioid addiction to bringing quality health care to Rwanda. The 2015 workshop was conducted with that year's Seedworks Social Justice Symposium topic “Health as a Human Right: A Call to Action,” in mind and the stories reflect that theme. These stories are used in our curriculum to initiate thought and discussion among students and faculty. They access the aspects of nursing that cannot be learned from a textbook.
