Understanding Community Living Standards and Expectations
The University of Massachusetts Amherst is a scholarly community united by its engagement in the exchange of ideas and the advancement of knowledge. The Code of Student Conduct and the Residence Hall Policies serve as an integral part of creating this community along with the University's educational mission. Both describe principles for living and acting responsibly in a community setting, with respect for the rights of all members of that community and for their property, common resources, and values.
Title IX Compliance
The University of Massachusetts Amherst is committed to fulfilling their requirements under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to respond promptly and effectively to complaints of all kinds of sexual misconduct and fostering a safe learning environment. All forms of harassment/discrimination (including rape, acquaintance rape, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, stalking, and sexual harassment) are violations of the Code of Student Conduct are subject to student conduct procedures.

Campus Policy on Alcohol and Other Drugs
We take high-risk drinking and substance abuse very seriously. To make sure you're staying on the right track and are informed about UMass expectations on and off campus, familiarize yourself with the University-wide Alcoholic Beverage Policy before arriving on campus.
Welcome to our Tobacco-Free Campus
We are also excited to share that the UMass Amherst Campus is entirely tobacco free. Use of all tobacco products is prohibited on university grounds.
