Trustee Victor Woolridge of Springfield, a UMass Amherst graduate, was named chair of the Board of Trustees by Gov. Charlie Baker on Jan. 26. The appointment came after Henry M. Thomas III resigned as chair to allow Baker to fill the post.
“Victor brings strong business and financial experience to this important job, along with a deep-seated commitment to the success of UMass and a personal understanding of its potential to transform lives,” said Baker in a press release. “He brings a clear strategic vision for leveraging the entire UMass system to fulfill its promise for academic excellence, affordability and economic impact.”
Woolridge, who is vice president of Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers, has chaired the board’s Committee on Administration and Finance since 2011. His term on the board expires in 2019. He graduated in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in legal studies.
Thomas, who remains on the board, served as chair since 2012. He has been a trustee since 2007.
