Wexler Attends Norway Workshop on Mental Health, Indigenous Suicide

Lisa Wexler, associate professor of community health education, traveled to Tromsø, Norway, May 26-27 as an invited guest for a workshop on mental health and indigenous suicide in circumpolar communities.

The workshop at the Fram Centre, an interdisciplinary research center associated with the Norwegian government, is part of a Canadian Institutes for Health Research grant called “The Evidence-Base for Promoting Mental Wellness and Resilience to Address Suicide in Circumpolar Communities.” the Teck John Baker Youth Leaders program in Alaska’s Northwest Arctic Borough School District. The program was started in 2009 to reduce youth substance abuse and its consequences for students in the district by addressing the contributing factors behind the problem.

The meeting was hosted by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and the Sustainable Development Working Group of the Arctic Council.
