University of Massachusetts to Hold Press Conference Naming Mark Whipple as New Football Head Coach

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts will hold a press conference officially introducing Mark Whipple as the new football head coach on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m.

The Press Conference will be held in the Massachusetts Room (3rd Floor) of the Mullins Center in Amherst.

Whipple returns to UMass for his second stint as the program’s head coach. He first served as head coach from 1998-2003 with a record of 49-26 in Amherst. The 56-year-old is well known to UMass fans as he guided the Minutemen during one of the program’s most successful eras highlighted by an NCAA I-AA National Championship in his first year as head coach in 1998.

The native of Tarrytown, N.Y., has 31 years of coaching experience at the collegiate and professional levels including 16 years as a head coach with a 121-59 overall record.
