University of Georgia Dining Services to Prepare Meal at UMass Amherst to Make Good on Super Bowl Bet


AMHERST, Mass. – After the New England Patriots’ stunning win in Super Bowl LI, Ken Toong, executive director of auxiliary enterprises at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, began plans to collect on a friendly food wager made before the game with his counterparts at the University of Georgia in Athens.

Billed as “Super-Duper Pay Day,” the celebratory event will take place on Friday, March 31 from 5-9 p.m. at Berkshire Dining Commons. It will feature a winning meal of shrimp and grits, boiled peanuts and pecan pie prepared by two University of Georgia chefs. Robert Holden, associate vice president for auxiliary services at the University of Georgia, will also join in the festivities.

If you’re counting, this was the seventh time Toong participated in such a wager. The Patriots' win increases his record to 5-2.

“I’m looking forward to the University of Georgia team coming to campus as we know them well,” says Toong. “They have an excellent dining program and I know our students will enjoy the delicious treat they have planned for us.”

Several Patriot Cheerleaders will also be on hand. About 3,000 students are expected to attend the special event.

Dinner and festivities are open to the public for $14 per person. Students, faculty and staff on a meal plan can attend for just one swipe.
