The 2016 UMass Garden Calendar is now available for single or bulk orders, with free shipping on nine or fewer copies until Nov. 1.
Each year, the UMass Garden Calendar presents a selection of plants chosen by the UMass Extension landscape, nursery & urban forestry staff for pest resistance, adaptability to specific growing environments and seasonal effectiveness. A brief description accompanies each photo to help explain these plant choices. Daily gardening tips provide information on garden pests and management strategies to help gardeners reduce pesticide usage. Also included are “how-to and when” tips, such as dates to plant peas, renovate lawns, prune and fertilize roses, conserve water in the landscape, and many more. As always, each month features daily sunrise and sunset times, phases of the moon, plenty of room for notes and low gloss paper for easy writing.
In addition, the 2016 UMass Garden Calendar highlights important information for pollinator stewardship. Details include the importance of pollinators, the phenomenon of pollinator decline, and best practices for attracting and supporting pollinators in your own garden.
