A shortage of drivers has forced temporary reductions of service on some campus routes.

The hiring event at the Bus Garage, 255 Governors Drive, will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and allow students to apply, be interviewed and hired on the spot.

There will be tours of the facility and vehicles, and applicants will receive a free meal from Baby Berk. Shuttle services to the event will be available from all dining commons.

Only UMass Amherst students can be hired for these jobs, which start at $14 per hour. Students are paid $12 per hour during training for their CDL.

Other advantages include:

  • Promotional opportunities for higher-paying positions
  • Pay raises every semester (drivers earn up to $15.75 per hour)
  • Flexible work schedules optimized for students
  • Working for an organization run almost entirely by students
  • Excellent resume material, including promotion to positions that offer supervisory experience
