Mary Deane Sorcinelli, associate provost for faculty development, director of the Center for Teaching and Faculty Development and professor of educational policy, research and administration, delivered the invited keynote address at the Conference on Innovating Teaching and Learning held May 17-19 at Fudan University in Shanghai.
China’s Ministry of Education has named Fudan University, one of the premier research universities in China, as a national level demonstration site for a new center for faculty development.
The conference, sponsored by the center and the president’s office, focused on learning and teaching in an open and connected world. Sorcinelli’s talk traced the evolution of faculty development around the globe, highlighted current issues in the digital age, and offered a forecast to the years ahead. She also led follow-up seminars, attended by faculty from Beijing, Chengdu, Jinan, Nanjing, Shanghai and Xiamen universities on topics related to the intersection of educational technology and teaching, learning and faculty development.
