AMHERST, Mass. – The sixth annual UMassGives, the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s 48-hour online fundraising event, raised a record $1.5 million from 7,062 gifts. The successful campaign ran from April 26 to midnight on April 27.

The total raised, $1,501,452, represents a 343 percent increase in dollars from the prior year and close to a 40 percent increase in the number of gifts. Gifts were received from alumni and friends in 13 countries, including the United States, and from 47 states across the nation. Forty-two percent of gifts were made by alumni, followed by students, friends, faculty/staff and parents.

Last year, $338,622 was raised from 5,107 gifts during UMassGives.

“We express our deep gratitude to all who participated in the tremendous success of UMassGives 2018,” said Nathan Adams, executive director of annual giving at UMass Amherst. “The level of excitement and enthusiasm this year is evident in the strong results generated for our students and this campus. We should be proud that so many of our alumni and friends came together to set a new record for supporting the university’s programs and continued progress.”

A breakdown of gifts by college, school and units indicates that the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences raised the most with a total of approximately $886,000 followed by the Isenberg School of Management, which raised $222,000, and UMass Athletics, which raised $161,000. Gifts were made to more than 165 different areas of campus.

The designations to receive the greatest number of gifts during the two-day period are, in descending order: Student Care and Emergency Response Fund, UMass Women into Leadership (a competitive leadership and training program), the Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management, UMass women’s ultimate Frisbee team, the Minuteman Marching Band, women’s ice hockey, women’s rowing, University Without Walls, Changing Health, Attitudes, and Actions to Recreate Girls (CHAARG), and men’s lacrosse.
