PHPC Update: Trends Encouraging, Walk-up COVID-19 Vaccinations Available

The Public Health Promotion Center (PHPC) is closely monitoring COVID-19 test results. Trends and the positivity rate at UMass Amherst remain encouraging as we near the end of the spring semester.

The positivity rate for last week (April 25-30) was 0.12%, making it the eighth consecutive week of having a positivity rate under 0.26%. The 0.12% positivity rate is now the lowest it has been all semester. Comparatively, the state’s current seven-day positivity rate is 1.49%.

Walk-Up Vaccinations Continuing

The PHPC strongly urges all UMass community members to be vaccinated as soon as possible. To make it even easier, walk-up vaccinations as well as appointments are available this week at the UMass Vaccine Clinic, located on the first floor of the Campus Center. Remember to bring a copy of your insurance card with you.

Walk-up clinic days and hours over the next week include:

  • Thursday, May 6 – 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, May 7 – 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 11, 1 to 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 12, 1to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 13, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The university is currently administrating the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Even if you will not be in the Amherst area in 21 days (Pfizer) or 28 days (Moderna) to receive your second dose, you are still encouraged to get your first dose immediately. With vaccine availability increasing across Massachusetts and the United States, it is now easier to sign up for a second dose if you obtained your first dose elsewhere. You may also still schedule a vaccination appointment.

Remember to keep your vaccine administration record and to upload any vaccines you receive elsewhere to the UHS patient portal.
