Herve G. Dion, 78, of Venice, Florida, a retired 11-year maintenance worker in housing services, died Nov. 20.

Born Sept. 24, 1939 in Holyoke, he was educated there and served in the Coast Guard from 1959-63.

He was a machinist for Spaulding for 13 years and Operator of Crays Package Store in Holyoke for 20 years. He joined UMass Amherst part-time in 1995, becoming full-time in 1996. He retired in 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Merrilda (Trombley) Dion; four daughters, Susan Depelteau and spouse Maureen of Enfield, Connecticut, Denise Richardson and husband James of West Springfield, Annette Duda of Venice, Florida, and Nicole Amos and husband Duane of Rutland; a brother, Raymond Dion of Morriston, Florida; and a sister, MaryJeanne Danner of Bowie, Maryland.
