Helen F. Cullen, 88, of Harwich, professor emerita of Mathematics, died Aug. 25 in Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
Born in Dorchester, she attended Boston Latin School and graduated from Radcliffe College before going on to earn her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
She joined the Mathematics Department in 1949 retired in 1992.
She was the author of many scholarly articles and books, including “Introduction to General Topology,” her chosen field of mathematics.
She leaves a brother, William Cullen of Medford; a nephew, Brian Cullen of Boxborough; a niece, Cynthia Cullen of Bellingham; and a great-nephew, Jay Mele, also of Bellingham.
Visiting hours are Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, followed by a 1 p.m. funeral service at Christ Church Episcopal, 671 Main St., Harwichport. Her burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Route 137, East Harwich.
