Evelyn (Sheppard) Boron, 93, of Amherst, a former janitor in Worcester Dining Commons and in residence halls, died July 1.

Born July 15, 1924, she graduated from the High School of Commerce in Springfield in 1942.

She worked in the Springfield Armory, Milton Bradley and her father’s market in Springfield’s Indian Orchard section before opening Boron’s Market with her husband Henry in South Deerfield in 1950.

She joined UMass Amherst is 1975, working in Worcester Dining Commons during the school year through 1983. She was then a residential janitor from 1983 until retiring in 1994.

After retiring, she worked part-time for Stop & Shop in the bakery department for 14 years until age 85.

She was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by her daughter Susan Beaubien and her husband Al; her sister Dianne Carter of Ipswich, sisters-in-law Harriet Rogers of Northampton and Shirley Boron of South Deerfield; and brother-in-law Walter Thayer of Hatfield.

There will be calling hours Friday, July 13 from 9-10:30 a.m.at Wrisley Funeral Home followed by a mass at the Holy Family Pope Center, both on Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield, and burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Boron Avenue, South Deerfield.
