Members of the music faculty are offering the public two free concerts in Bezanson Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Center.

On Sunday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m., flutist Cobus du Toit will be joined by pianist Nadine Shank and guest pianist Doreen Lee in presenting a diverse and wide-ranging program. Two of the featured works (“Misinterpreted Cries” by Joseph Z. Adams, “A Room of Quiet” by Nathan Hall) grew from the #WeBringFlowers Project, which du Toit organized to commission chamber works for flute based on the theme of non-violence. Another composer from that project, Paul Hanmer, will have his new work “Treurwatersrand” performed for the first time at the concert, which will also include works by Handel, Périlhou and Valerie Coleman.

On Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m., a concert titled Chamber Masterworks will feature faculty members Elizabeth Chang, violin; Romie de Guise-Langlois, clarinet; Edward Arron, cello and Gilles Vonsattel, piano. The program will inclde Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time,” Berg’s “Four Pieces for Clarinet & Piano,” Op. 5, Debussy’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano” and Ravel’s “Duo for Violin and Cello.”
