Kirsten Britton, an experienced athletics administrator at New England colleges, has been appointed senior associate director of athletics for sport administration. She will also serve as the athletics department’s senior woman administrator.

Britton begins her new duties on Feb. 20.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Kirsten Britton to our athletics leadership team,” said Ryan Bamford, director of athletics. “Kirsten has a wonderful background in college athletics at peer institutions, which will be a great asset to the University of Massachusetts. Given her work experiences and excitement for our goals as an athletics department, she is a tremendous fit to help drive academic and competitive excellence for our 21 sport teams.”

Britton joins UMass Amherst after serving as the associate director of athletics for facilities, operations and events for Holy Cross since February 2016.

“The University of Massachusetts is nationally recognized for academic achievement and athletic success. I look forward to working with the outstanding student-athletes, coaches and staff here and I can't wait to get started,” Britton said.

At Holy Cross, Britton had oversight of the $95 million Hart Center expansion and renovation project and managed all athletics facilities, game operations and outside events for Holy Cross, in addition to overseeing the cross country and track and field programs.

Before her time in Worcester, Britton worked at the University of Connecticut from 2012-2016, serving as the assistant director of athletics for event management. While at UConn, Britton provided leadership, planning and event management for 24 varsity sport programs, while adhering to NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations.

Britton also acted as tournament director for the NCAA Women’s Basketball first and second rounds in Storrs, Conn., as well as providing all operational logistics for the UConn women’s basketball Final Four appearances in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Prior to her time at UConn, Britton was the assistant director of event management at Boston College for six years, where she oversaw the event management for the Eagles’ 18 varsity sport programs.
