Once again, UMass Amherst Information Technology is conducting a toy drive through Friday, Dec. 15 to benefit Baystate Children’s Hospital in Springfield.
Drop-off points are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Only brand new toys are suitable for hospital donations.
David Sullivan, a member of the IT Staff Leadership Group, which is conducting the drive, said, “This toy drive is special to me because last year my son Derek was diagnosed with a small heart defect that required open heart surgery. We spent a week in the hospital and I was able to see firsthand how much joy these toys bring to children during their stay.”
Sullivan said Derek is now a fully recovered, energetic 4-year-old.
“Although our visit was a short one, there are many children who spend weeks or months in the hospital and I feel our donations could really brighten their time there,” he said.
