AMHERST, Mass. - Governors Drive, located at the north end of the campus of the University of Massachusetts, will be closed due to construction beginning at 7 a.m. Mon., March 15 through 5 p.m. Fri., March 19.
No through traffic will be allowed between North Pleasant Street and Commonwealth Avenue, according to Barbara O''Connor, UMass deputy police chief.
The closing is necessary to allow for the installation of steam lines in the vicinity of the Silvio O. Conte National Center for Polymer Research.
Employees who use parking lots #26, 31, and 68 will be allowed access to those lots, O''Connor says. Traffic will also be allowed access to the loading area of the polymer science center and the auxiliary services warehouse via Commonwealth Avenue.
O''Connor explains the construction was postponed until next week, which is the University''s spring break, because of the expected reduction in traffic utilizing Governors Drive during that period.
