Pamela Dutta, administrative director of the Student Legal Services Office, has moved to the International Programs Office (IPO) to become associate director for international student and scholar success, effective Jan. 14.

This new position has a joint reporting role to Student Affairs and Campus Life’s (SACL) advocacy, inclusion and support programs.

The position is being funded by Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy and underscores the university’s commitment to, and support for, its burgeoning international population, particularly as changing federal immigration policies and related regulations have caused significant concern to the community over the past year.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Pamela to the IPO,” says Ken Reade, director of International Student and Scholars Services. “This in many ways formalizes the outstanding partnership we have already enjoyed with Pamela in our international programming efforts, and it will allow us to increase and enhance our services and programs to our entire UMass Amherst international community.”

In her new role, Dutta will allow IPO and SACL to be even more integrated in their collective commitment to the inclusion and success of the international student and scholar community, Reade said.

Shelly Perdomo, assistant vice chancellor for advocacy, inclusion and support programs, said, “In our efforts to cultivate and strengthen our cross-collaborative approaches to equity, diversity and inclusion, Pamela will be uniquely situated to collaborate with the Center for Women and Community, Student Veterans Resource Center, Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, Stonewall Center, Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success, Men and Masculinities Center, Upward Bound and Student Bridges, to better support the diverse needs of our international students.”

UMass Amherst is home to nearly 3,400 international undergraduate and graduate students from 115 countries and more than 550 international faculty, researchers and scholars.
