Two companies hoping to build resort casinos in Massachusetts will be among the 68 firms recruiting at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management’s 40th annual career day.
MGM Resorts International, the only company in the running for the one casino license available for western Massachusetts, hopes to build an $800 million entertainment and casino complex in Springfield’s South End. Mohegan Sun, which operates a casino in Connecticut, is seeking the eastern Massachusetts license for its proposed $1.3 billion casino in Revere.
MGM has estimated its project will create 3,000 permanent jobs. Mohegan Sun estimates 4,000 permanent jobs will be created by its project.
Among those recruiting at the student-run event in the Campus Center Auditorium will be representatives from hotels, country clubs, resorts, restaurants, property managers, cruise lines and car rental firms. Fifteen of them are new to the event this year. Major companies include Marriott International, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Six Flags New England.
Career day is open to the HTM department’s 534 majors.
