Award-Winning Chef Joanne Weir Launches New Cookbook by Preparing Five-Course Meals at UMass Clubs

AMHERST, Mass. – James Beard Award-winning chef Joanne Weir will be preparing a five-course, prix-fixe dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 5-9 p.m. at the University Club & Restaurant at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and at the University of Massachusetts Club in Boston on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 5-9 p.m. The events mark the launch Weir’s latest book, “Kitchen Gypsy: Recipes and Stories from a Lifelong Romance with Food,” to be released Sept. 16.

A UMass Amherst alumna, Weir is also a cookbook author, international cooking teacher and television personality.Her award-winning PBS series, “Joanne Weir’s Cooking Class” and “Joanne Weir’s Cooking Confidence,” shares her love of cooking with a national TV audience. Her newest TV series “Joanne Weir Gets Fresh” began airing nationally in the U.S. in January.

The dinner event costs $65 per person, $115 per couple. Pricing tiers include one signed copy of “Kitchen Gypsy: Recipes and Stories from a Lifelong Romance with Food.”

The Amherst dinner is open to the public. The Boston dinner is open only to club members and their guests.

Attendees will have the option of pairing their entrees with Weir’s award-winning wines, including her 2012 Sonoma chardonnay and 2008 Napa Valley cabernet—both Double Gold winners in the San Francisco International Wine Competition. 

The full menu features roasted carrot hummus with root vegetable chips, red onion soup with garlic gruyere toasts, baked goat cheese salad with mesclun and flowers, creamy polenta beef tenderloin roulade with mushrooms, Greek honey panna cotta with toasted walnuts and honey. A vegetarian entrée of farro risotto with caramelized onions and Madeira is also available.
