Amazon @ UMass Opens as UMass Amherst’s Official Bookstore

AMHERST, Mass. – Amazon @ UMass (, the new official bookstore of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, is open for back-to-school.

Located in the Lincoln Campus Center, this is a staffed on-campus pickup location where UMass students, faculty and staff can conveniently get textbooks and other college essentials ordered through Amazon. The store is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.

As part of the collaboration, all UMass students and faculty get free one-day shipping on textbooks when shipping to campus or campus-area ZIP codes. Eligible ZIP codes are 01002, 01003, 01035, 01060, 01373 and 01375. 

In addition, Amazon Student and Prime members also get free one-day pickup on millions of items – from textbooks or class materials to laptops or mac and cheese – when shipping to the Amazon @ UMass pickup location in the Campus Center. 

Amazon will give UMass a percentage of eligible sales from customers – including faculty, staff and alumni – who have ordered through and activated their UMass shopping experience

Once activated, students will identify books needed for class by looking for a badge with UMass's logo and class information within Amazon search results and product pages. Amazon worked with the university to integrate relevant course and section information into the Amazon product pages.

Students can also purchase almost any item that is sold by or fulfilled by Amazon and ship to the Amazon @ UMass location.Amazon Student and Prime members will see a Prime Campus badge marked on any items eligible for free one-day pickup, which means an order placed by 10 p.m. will be available for pickup the next day.

When purchasing items on, students can choose Amazon @ UMass as their shipping address at checkout for pickup at the Amazon store in the Campus Center. When the orders arrive, students will receive an email or text notification.

When ready to pick up an order, the student will click on the link provided in the email or text. This link will generate a barcode.

At the Campus Center pickup, the student will scan the barcode and pick up the order at a self-service locker or go to the pickup desk where an associate can provide assistance.

In addition to UMass Amherst, Amazon has similar arrangements with the University of California, Davis, and Purdue University.
