Ten faculty members have each received a $1,000 Sustainability Curriculum Fellowship (SCF) from the Chancellor’s Office to develop or augment courses with sustainability-related topics.
The recipients are Boone Sheare, anthropology, Sarah Berquist, Stockbridge School of Agriculture, Amilcar Shabazz, Afro-American studies, Margaret Vickery, architecture, Razvan Sibii , journalism, Toby Applegate, geosciences, Boris Lau, civil and environmental engineering, Lorraine Cordeiro, nutrition, Alison Bates, environmental conservation, and Krystal Pollitt, environmental health sciences.
Faculty fellows attend a monthly meeting where they receive guidance through library resources, assistance with course design or redesign, and learn about campus sustainability policies, projects and other advancements. Funded for the first three years by the UMass Amherst Libraries, the program has supported 30 faculty members from across 18 disciplines.
The SCF is helped by Chancellor’s Sustainability Advisory Committee, UMass Amherst Libraries, Facilities and Campus Services’ campus sustainability manager, the Institute for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development and sustainability-engaged faculty.
