The linguistics department at UMass Amherst ranks second worldwide in the 2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject, which were released Feb 28. The department rose from No. 3 last year, surpassing Harvard University for the second spot behind MIT. The sport management department in the Isenberg School of Management is 29th in the rankings.
Online bachelor’s degree programs at UMass Amherst rank 16th nationally, according to a survey released by U.S. News & World Report, which also listed the university 13th for online baccalaureate programs for veterans.

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst is 126th among research universities worldwide in 2018 Best Global Universities published by U.S. News & World Report. The rankings also include 22 broad subject areas, where the university is 5th worldwide in agricultural sciences.
UMass Amherst has been recognized as one of the top 25 campuses in the country for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students by Campus Pride, a national LGBTQ youth support and advocacy organization.
UMass Amherst is in the fourth safest college in the United States, according to Alarms.org, the official site of the National Council for Home Safety and Security. The top-ranked schools and their host towns “boast low overall crime rates and offer safe campuses with little or no campus crime,” says the report.
