UMass Amherst has been recognized as one of the top 25 campuses in the country for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students by Campus Pride, a national LGBTQ youth support and advocacy organization.
UMass Amherst is in the fourth safest college in the United States, according to Alarms.org, the official site of the National Council for Home Safety and Security. The top-ranked schools and their host towns “boast low overall crime rates and offer safe campuses with little or no campus crime,” says the report.
For a fourth straight year, the University of Massachusetts Amherst is among the nation’s top 30 public universities, ranked 29th by the 2018 Best Colleges guide released Sept. 12 by U.S. News & World Report. The university was ranked as a Top 30 national public university for the first time in 2014. In the 2018 rankings, UMass Amherst shares the No. 29 spot with one other school.

The linguistics department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst ranks third worldwide, according to the QS World University Rankings for 2017, which were released March 8. The latest subject rankings place UMass Amherst behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University in the field of linguistics. The guide refers to UMass Amherst as the “highest climber in the top 10,” having jumped from No. 7 last year.
The Online MBA offered by the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst has been ranked first in the United States by the Financial Times and third in the world. The Isenberg School has offered an online format for nearly 15 years. More than 1,300 students are currently enrolled in the program, which was founded in 2001.
