Ocean Vuong, assistant professor in the department of English, will release his second book “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous” on Tuesday, June 4. This is Vuong's first novel, following his poetry collection, “Night Sky with Exit Wounds.”
Andrew Barto, professor emeritus in the College of Information and Computer Sciences, was honored with the UMass Neurosciences Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering research into reinforcement learning on Tuesday, May 28.
College of Information and Computer Sciences alum Daniel Bernstein, professor Shlomo Zilberstein and professor Neil Immerman were selected to receive the 2019 Influential Paper Award in Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems by the International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems.
Barbara Krauthamer, dean of the Graduate School, has been appointed as senior vice provost for Interdisciplinary Programs and Innovation by Provost John McCarthy. As Senior Vice Provost, she will oversee the Bachelor’s Degree with Individual Concentration (BDIC) and the University Without Walls (UWW) degree programs.
