The National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) will host two full-day workshops May 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 102 Furcolo Hall as a way to provide resources and support to faculty members on campus.

NCFDD is an independent professional development, training and mentoring community of faculty, postdocs and graduate students from more than 450 colleges and universities.

On Monday, May 7, “Solo Success: How to Thrive in the Academy When You're the Only _____ in Your Department” will address the unique concerns of underrepresented faculty members. Participants will identify the common challenges underrepresented faculty face on the tenure track and discuss the three biggest mistakes made by underrepresented faculty. They will also learn specific strategies to increase their productivity, serving strategically, teaching efficiently and building strong and healthy professional relationships.

On Tuesday, May 8, “Writing Your Next Chapter: How to Find Your Mojo at Mid-Career” will outline the most common issues mid-career faculty face and provide participants with strategies for identifying where they are stuck and how to move forward in their intellectual projects.

The workshops are part of the institution’s broader commitment to improve its campus climate for faculty and graduate students. In September 2017, it was announced that the university had invested in an institutional membership with NCFDD.
