Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy will attend the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst on Thursday, March 28. The program begins at 4 p.m. and the chancellor will join student volunteers to serve the public at 5:30 p.m.

VITA, a program run by the IRS, offers free tax return preparation and filing to those who make less than $55,000 annually, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers. The university has participated in VITA since the early 1980s.

At the Isenberg School of Management, 90-plus student volunteers provide domestic (U.S. citizens and U.S. resident aliens) and international (non-resident aliens) tax services to students and community members. The program approximately serves 1,700 people between February and April, making the student group one of the largest in the country in terms of tax returns processed.

The program operates every Tuesday-Thursday from 4-6 and will end on April 10. The service runs on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Media are encouraged to attend.
