Workshop 1:

Funding for Mid-Career Faculty Advancement

Monday, Oct. 4, 1:15-2:45 p.m. – via Zoom

If you are a mid-career faculty member who has received tenure, you may be seeking ways to support your scholarly activities through pursuing new research directions and collaborations, sabbatical year projects, or restarting a research program after a gap in funding. If so, please join this workshop for an information session and a faculty panel discussion on how to identify and evaluate funding opportunities for these specific circumstances, including a brief overview of some relevant federal, foundation, and internal funding programs. Faculty panelists will share the funding strategies that led to success in their particular mid-career situation. The session will also offer the chance to form small, ongoing cohorts of faculty grant writing accountability groups.

Moderator/Presenter: Sarah Poissant, OFD Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow, associate professor of communication disorders

Panelists: Mary K. Green, research development associate, Office of Research Development; Marco Cocito-Monoc, executive director, Foundation Relations; Peter Chien, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, College of Natural Science; Krista Harper, professor of anthropology and public policy, associate director of Institute of Social Science Research; Alicia R. Timme-Laragy, associate professor of environmental health sciences, School of Public Health and Health Science

Held in collaboration with Institute of Social Science Research, Office of Foundation Relations and Office of Research Development.

Workshop 2:

Successfully Navigating the Transition to Associate Professor

Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1-2:30 p.m.

Associate professors often have to balance a ‘new normal’ of increased teaching and service while continuing to grow their research profile. In this workshop, a panel of recently-promoted full professors will discuss ways to successfully navigate this transition and thrive while working towards the rank of full professor. Panelists will discuss their own paths to promotion and will lead small group discussions focused on self-assessment of strengths and growing edges, navigating service and achieving balance.

Facilitators: Angela de Oliveira, interim chair of environmental health science, professor of resource economics; and Sarah Poissant, OFD Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow, associate professor of communication disorders

Panelists: TBA

Workshop 3:

Creating Your Associate Professor Faculty Development Plan

Thursday, Dec. 9, 1-2:30 p.m.

As an associate professor, you are in a stage of transition, deciding on your path for the next stage of your career. This workshop will focus on defining your career mission, evaluating your values and priorities, and evaluating time allocation. You will work to map out your short and mid-term goals and strategize the steps, resources and mentors you need in order to achieve your career mission.

Facilitator: Sarah Poissant, OFD Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow, associate professor of communication disorders
