Obituary: Fannie C. Ely, Worked in Residential Life

Fannie C. (Horr) Ely, 97, of Hadley, a retired clerk in Residential Life, died Nov. 10.

Born March 28, 1921 in New Salem, she joined UMass Amherst in 1962 as a kitchen helper and became a junior clerk in 1966. She retired as a senior clerk in 1979.

She loved horses and rode and cared for her horse, Burley, well into her 70s.

The widow of Walter Ely, she is survived by her brother James and his wife Rita of Belchertown; her sister Blanche Owens of Florida; and son-in-law Ronald Barrett of Hadley.
