The Crowley-Nowick Award for iCons Student Philanthropy and Leadership was established through a gift from Peg Crowley-Nowick ’86, founder and president of Zipher Medical Affairs, LLC of Marion, Massachusetts. Each year, the award is given to two rising iCons seniors who embody a strong sense of community in the iCons program. The recipients organize the Senior Class Gift, which is matched by the donor. This is then awarded as the Crowley-Nowick Scholarship to a rising iCons student with outstanding achievements.

In addition to her involvement with iCons, Lovell is also the president of the UMass chapter of Engineers Without Borders and is the secretary of the Associated General Contractors chapter at UMass. Inbar is a board member in SAFI, the Student Alliance for Israel, and Mishelanu, an Israeli culture club on campus. In addition, he is a member of the Stratton Lab and is active in the Neuroscience Club and Biochemistry Club.

“I am honored to win this award because I believe in the mission of iCons,” Lovell says, “Students as leaders and professors as our equals; everyone working towards a common goal to solve the world’s problems together.” Similarly, Inbar speaks about the honor of representing his cohort and preparing the scholarship that will be awarded to future cohorts. He is also honored that his cohort recognizes him in this positive light. “It means that my peers saw me as someone who does, and in the future will, foster a sense of community,” he says.

When asked what they hope to do in this new role as a Crowley-Nowick Scholar (CN Scholar), both Inbar and Lovell are looking forward to organizing events and fundraisers. They also speak about further building a sense of community.

“I would like to throw some events throughout the year to help with team-building and cohort bonding,” Inbar answers. “The interaction and collaboration between cohorts is something I look forward to!”

“As a CN Scholar, I hope to center the importance of building a community of love within iCons,” Lovell says. “Community is the most important part of what we do together.”
