Graduate Program in History of Art and Architecture Celebrates 50 Years

The department of the history of art and architecture will celebrate the master’s program’s 50th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Founded in 1969, the master of art program in the history of art and architecture is the only graduate degree in the field at a public university in New England. 

Events throughout the day will include alumni workshops, tours of the new South College, a cocktail party and the opportunity to view “Leonardo Drew: Cycles,” “Fielding: Goldenrod and an Exploration of Connections,” and “Avital Sagalyn: A Life of Exploration” in the University Museum of Contemporary Art.

The Mark Roskill Symposium, an interdisciplinary symposium organized annually by second year graduate students in the department, will be held in Old Chapel from 10 to 11:30 a.m. as part of the celebration. This year’s symposium, “The Allure of the Global: Contemporary Curating as a De-centering Practice,” will mark the 20th anniversary of the tradition. The symposium is free and open to the public.
