Cleaning Procedures for Campus Buildings Explained in Detail
Facilities supervisors will be touring all campus buildings to review and audit levels of cleaning and disinfecting. Building occupants who have questions can contact the Facilities Solutions Center 24/7 at 413-545-6401, or work with their building coordinator or facilities customer service representative.
Unlocked buildings and certain research-active buildings
Custodial Services will perform daily cleaning and disinfection of all public spaces including restrooms, classrooms, teaching labs, stairwells, elevators and lobbies. This includes cleaning and disinfection of all fixtures, touchpoints, floors, and trash removal All touchpoints will have additional disinfection during building operation hours. Hand sanitizer and disinfection supplies will be available at each instruction location so that occupants can also disinfect their personal space. Custodial services will also disinfect chairs twice daily in instructional outdoor tents.
Occupants will be responsible for the disinfection of private office spaces using supplies provided to departments by the Physical Plant. Occupants of private office spaces will also put trash and recycling into centralized bins adjacent to work locations that will be removed from the building by Custodial Services.
Research laboratories will have weekly cleaning and disinfection of floors done, and trash and recycling removed, but the touchpoint disinfection in the lab is the responsibility of the occupants using supplies provided by Physical Plant.
Locked buildings
Specific restrooms will be identified for daily cleaning and disinfection of all fixtures, touchpoints, vertical/horizontal surfaces and floors, and trash will be removed. All other restrooms will be posted as closed and locked where possible. High-touch public areas will have daily cleaning and disinfection. Occupants will be responsible for the cleaning and disinfection of their spaces using supplies provided by the Physical Plant and will be responsible for the removal of trash and recycling to centralized bins in adjacent spaces in the building. Depending upon the occupancy of the building, certain temperature adjustments may be made to conserve energy.
Schools and colleges have identified locked buildings with higher levels of research activity. Although these buildings will be locked, they will have cleaning and disinfecting procedures similar to unlocked buildings, as described above. Departments should work with their building coordinator or facilities customer service representative if they have any questions about the service in their building.
