In 2021, road traffic fatalities in the United States exceeded 46,000, with pedestrians accounting for 20% and cyclists for 3% of these deaths (National Safety Council, 2022). Pedestrian and cyclist fatalities have steadily increased over the past decade, reaching their highest levels in three decades. This project aims to examine the spatial distribution and factors affecting transportation safety for active transportation users in Connecticut. Understanding how these factors systematically influence the use and safety of active transportation, and investigating their spatial distribution, is essential to better inform policy interventions aimed at improving safe mobility for all.
