Saved by a Traffic Engineer: Advancing Multimodal Safety through Research and Practical Use of the MUTCD and other Design Guidance
This May, NEUTC had the pleasure of hosting Peter Koonce at UMass Amherst's Mt. Ida Campus to deliver his lecture, Saved by a Traffic Engineer. Here he discussed The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and its "notorious" difficulty regarding implementation of a safe systems approach, sharing both new updates and insights into the future direction from the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and how this may inform best practices moving forward.
