NEUTC congratulates Dr. Bryan Reimer, Research Scientist at the MIT AgeLab, on his recent appointment to the Task Force on Human Factors in Aviation Safety Aviation Rulemaking Committee (HF Task Force ARC). This distinguished role will see Dr. Reimer contribute to recommendations for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on key human factors impacting aviation safety.

Dr. Reimer’s expertise in human-technology interaction and transportation safety has gained national recognition. His latest appointment comes after a year of service on the Transforming Transportation Advisory Committee (TTAC) for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), where he plays a pivotal role as Vice Chair of the Artificial Intelligence Sub-Committee. The TTAC recently delivered a critical report to the Secretary of Transportation, outlining strategic guidance on emerging technologies in transportation.

Beyond policymaking, Dr. Reimer continues to shape the dialogue on vehicle automation and safety. Recently, he appeared in The Ojo-Yoshida Report to discuss the new Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) regulation and its potential implications. His discussion delved into concerns over false positives, phantom braking, and the broader impact of the AEB standard on driver safety.

Finally, as a leading voice in transportation safety, Dr. Reimer was also be featured in a ADaS Lab webinar on February 27. This session offered insights into driver behavior in the age of automation, covering:

  • How drivers engage with assistive driving features
  • The impact of automation on driver attention
  • Future outlooks on automated and electrified mobility
  • Findings from large-scale naturalistic driving studies
