Preventing new invasive plants is most effective when management is consistent across jurisdictional boundaries and has a strong focus on early detection and rapid response. But our recent analyses of regulated plant lists show that invasive plant policy is neither consistent nor proactive. Here, we use a case study of risk assessments from Northeast states to develop recommendations for species to evaluate and ways to evaluate them that could lead to more consistent and proactive policy.
