Diet and physical activity are central for health promotion and disease prevention throughout the lifespan. The mission of the Nutrition Assessment Laboratory (NAL) is to advance and disseminate new knowledge about the role of diet and physical activity on healthy aging. To achieve our mission, the NAL develops and applies dietary assessment tools, measures biomarkers of nutrients and health, and conducts studies to investigate the role of diet and exercise on cardiometabolic outcomes.
Dr. Lisa M. Troy leads the NAL research team, which works across disciplines and with collaborators from UMass Amherst and beyond.


The NAL is excited to welcome Sara Donnelly, an undergraduate student in the Nutrition Department, to the lab. Sara has been an active member of the UMass community. Sara helped expand the Plant-Based Nutrition Club and volunteers with the Student Food Recovery Network which brings food from UMass dining to various locations in Amherst to provide free and healthy food for individuals who are food insecure.
