Music and Dance Programs Hold 2022 Convocation Ceremonies

The UMass Amherst Department of Music & Dance held its annual Convocation on May 3 - in person after two years on Zoom - to honor its music scholarship award winners and graduates. The winning students are listed below, and the event program can be viewed here.
Hosted by department chair Salvatore Macchia, the Convocation included a performance by clarinetist Jonathan Decker, last year's Theodore Presser Scholar, of the first movement of Schumann's Fantasiestuck, Op. 73, along with Nikki Stoia, piano. The Student Speaker for the Class of 2022 was M.M. recipient in Orchestral Conducting Britney Alcine.
The Dance Program's Senior Recognition Event took place that same evening and featured guest speaker Michele Byrd-McPhee, street dance activist and founder/Executive Director of Ladies of Hip-Hop; Dance Program director Tom Vacanti hosted the event. The honored dance graduates were Camrie Baams, Madeline Canavan, Jade Farrell, Emma Garber, Hannah Lieberman, Kayla Reid, Stephanie Schramm and Katya Taylor.

Ornest Undergraduate Award: Crystal Curran, Eliza Howells, Justin McArthur, Matt Taylor & Hannah White
Philip Bezanson Graduate Voice Award: Victor Bento & Pietro Pizzatto
Eugenie M. May Piano Award: Jess Larsen
Julian Olevsky Memorial Award in Violin: Christopher Bolduc
Laura Klock Award in Horn: Courtney Brennan
Lynn Klock Award in Saxophone: Zoe Stinson
Susan Cunningham Campbell Outstanding Freshman Award: Christian Bearse
Susan Cunningham Campbell Outstanding Sophomore Award: Maya Powe
