UMass Amherst alumna Allison Smith, who received her Master's in Music History here in 2017, has been awarded the William F. Holmes / Frank D'Accone Dissertation Fellowship in Opera Studies from the American Musicological Society (AMS). This fellowship is one of just a few awarded by the AMS nationwide, and is very prestigious and competitive.
Smith is currently completing her Ph.D. in Musicology at Boston University. Her proposed dissertation title is "Pedagogies of the Black Operatic Voice in Postapartheid South Africa."
The Holmes / D'Accone Fellowship for dissertation research recognizes academic achievement and future promise in the study of opera. It was announced on the AMS Awards webpage, and recognized by Smith's former music history professor here at UMass, Erinn Knyt.
