Jennifer Harding is a music theorist specializing in mathematical and computational approaches to music analysis. She holds PhD and MM degrees in Music Theory from Florida State University and an MM in Violin Performance from Northern Illinois University.

Jennifer’s primary research uses mathematics (with an emphasis on the discrete Fourier transform) to describe the harmonic characteristics of music from a wide range of composers, including the Renaissance madrigals of Cipriano de Rore, music of Olivier Messiaen, the microtonal works of Alois Hába, and works by Thomas Adès. She has presented her work at international, national, and regional conferences. She is also interested in issues surrounding digital representation of musical scores and their applications, with her work appearing in the proceedings of the Music Encoding Conference.

Prior to teaching at University of Massachusetts Amherst, Jennifer taught at Florida State University. While at FSU, she served as associate director of the FSU Music Living-Learning community, one of the largest academically themed residential housing programs of its kind.
