Graduate Audition Requirements- Strings

UPDATED REMOTE PROCEDURE FOR FALL 2021 ENTRY: In lieu of a live audition, prospective graduate students should prepare a video of the requirements for their instrument outlined below and have it submitted with their Audition Request Form by February 1st. Videos received after this date will be reviewed on a space-dependent basis.

Graduate Violin

A - Repertoire

  • One movement from a major violin concerto
  • Two contrasting movements from the unaccompanied Bach Sonatas and Partitas (a dance movement and its double constitute one movement)

B - Technique

  • An etude or caprice by Paganini, Wieniawski, Gavinies, Rode or Dont Op. 35
  • Major and minor scales in three octaves (for Recorded Audition, one key will suffice)

 


Graduate Viola

  • One movement from a major concerto, such as Walton, Bartok, or Hindemith
  • All Major, Melodic and Harmonic scales in 3 octaves
