Appreciating "The New Immigrant Experience" by Felipe Salles
0:00 - [MUSIC PLAYING]
0:05 - There's a lot of people who don't even
0:07 - know who Dreamers are.
0:09 - Or don't even understand what immigrants
0:12 - have to go through adapting to a new culture.
0:16 - It is a conversation with Dreamers about their struggles
0:22 - and about growing up undocumented
0:27 - in America expressed through video and music.
0:33 - I think the music in itself is very emotional.
0:36 - And it tries to draw people into the conversation.
0:42 - Each movement tells a different story of a different person,
0:45 - their struggles.
0:47 - And it's pretty intense.
0:48 - [MUSIC PLAYING]
0:54 - I felt very terrified when I got the Guggenheim,
0:58 - because I really felt like I had a responsibility of doing
1:02 - something really important.
1:05 - I am a lawyer by training, but I am currently the first Dreamer
1:09 - to ever run for office in the state of New York.
1:11 - I got an education on the issues.
1:14 - And I feel like that is the way to go forward,
1:17 - is to educate other people.
1:20 - I hope that people will see the undocumented immigrants
1:25 - in a different light.
1:26 - I'm a person of the world, and I'm a human being.
