Academics
The Department of Music & Dance provides students with a conservatory-quality education in the diverse and dynamic setting of a public research university.
Led by our world-class faculty, our Department offers students a wide variety of academic concentrations, from instrumental and vocal performance to music history and education, along with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. These programs provide optimal professional training in a variety of disciplines and for careers as music teachers, performers, composers, scholars, arrangers, and conductors.
As graduates of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, our students move on to a myriad of careers, shaping new realities in the world around them by applying the passion and skills they garner at UMass Amherst.
The Five-College Consortium, comprised of UMass, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Hampshire, and Amherst Colleges, provides additional study and performance opportunities for both students and faculty.
